was awesome last night!

Had a 'discussion' about the penis length of a barnacle and the ratios. Obviously I had to bring in the 'if a barnacle was the size of a human male its penis would be as tall as Nelson's column in trafalgar square'.

Unfortunately, Mr Bailey did not agree and stated that it was a ratio of 6:1.

However, some research suggests that I may have been more accurate although according to this article it is dependent on the turbulence in the water it is based (journal entry).

And Wikipedia would beg to differ: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penis, search for barnacle

by the way a barnacle penis looks like this

Brownie pack holiday this weekend... Jul. 2nd, 2009 @ 05:45 pm
woo hoo!

Feedback on good/bad or indifferent when I return :)

In other news chooks are laying well, currently getting 3 eggs pretty much everyday. I just gave away 22 eggs last week and the fridge is over flowing again!

Finally started to get all my school resources in order and compiling a list with ideas for particular units on it that links to the different resources I have. Although the curriculum at KS3 has changed now for year 7, will in Sept for year 8 and the next year for year 9 I am sure there is sufficient overlap that lots of things can still be used. Some practicals are staples that have been done since the dawn of time!!

The bathroom is STILL NOT FINISHED, the other day they said on the radio the problem with DIY is that it never really gets finished and right now my bloomin bathroom is testament to that. I need to get my hands on an electric tile cutter to cut down all the edge tiles to size, cut the bath end to size and get my friend to put in the shower, put up a shower rail and hang a shower curtain AND THEN AND ONLY THEN will it be finished!

Life... Jun. 5th, 2009 @ 05:40 pm
well the vast expanse of nothingness is about to be broken, next week is looking pretty busy! On Tuesday I have an interview for a PT teaching position, that wil be nice as it won't eat up my whole life and then off to Download for a few days which will be awesome!

The new chickens are very settled and laying lovely eggs: we decided to call the 2 that were the same breed as Esmerelda and Prudence the same as the names hardly got any usage and then the 3rd is called Ginger. I need to get some pictures of them but they are a very friendly bunch. I sat down in the garden and one perched on the back of the chair, another jumped in my lap and the 3rd sat down by my feet! Ash will get jealous he likes lying next to me in the garden.

Life otherwise plods on, the new bathroom suite is installed and plumbed in. There's a slight issue with a drip from the sink waste (due to poor fitting cheap B&Q pieces!) but at some pint I just need to dismantle it and add some silicon and it will go away. (and since it only drips when water is running down the plug hole and not drastically it can wait for a few days!). I need to finish filling in the cuts in the wall for the shower water and power and get it installed, then there is the tiling and painting to do (it was painted beforehand but cutting channels in the plaster means it needs doing again), making storage cupboards to hide pipework and it will look awesome.

So hope everyone else is well :)

*sigh* I spoke too soon Apr. 30th, 2009 @ 01:19 pm
We had just decided to name the two new girls Esmerelda and Prudence, had spent a week getting them to hand feed mealworms and guess what we come down to inside the chicken coop on Tuesday morning?

All evidence suggests it managed to push open the lid to the nest box, which was hooked with a catch on one side at night when it was dark, kill the chickens then got stuck in there and thus we found it in the morning. It was definately an adolescent not an adult and was scared stiff.

Chicken names Apr. 21st, 2009 @ 05:18 pm
We have 2 new chickens and are trying to decide on names, heres a list of the ones I have come up with so far. James is still thinking of his ideas...

Wynonna
Wilma
Vanessa
Velvet
Tattiana (I think this would be particularly good for the black one...she looks Russian!)
Rosemary
Petunia
Midnight
Mildred
Henrietta
Guinevere
Genevieve
Esmerelda
Ebony

We will be getting 2 more but they didn't have any of the Rangers in stock and I wanted them. They will have them beginning of May though :)

One of the new ones is a Bovans Nera and the other a Speckly, you can see pictures and details here

New chickens! Dec. 27th, 2008 @ 03:20 pm
Yep, got myself as couple of ex-batts to join Annabelle and Kimberley. One of them is mine and I bought the other for James. We each chose our own from the selection they had available.

The new girls (dark brown mine, more mottly is James's)

And Annabelle and Kimberley still looking mighty fine!

back to school Nov. 4th, 2008 @ 03:39 pm
ugh got to go back to school tomorrow and not looking forward to it. Got about 3/4's of the work I wanted to get done done so it's a start (although that assumes I get some more work done before the end of the day).

Have had a go at securing the chicken coop to prevent escapes, now it's dark by the time either of us gets home the chickens need to stay in the run area so they can go to bed without issues. If they escape they will end up sleeping in the garden randomnly which is bad for them and good for the local foxes. Thinking about finally investing in the automatic pop-hole so they get secured in safely in the evenings but it's £90!

Anyway, not really looking forward to tomorrow, early morning cold get up and the constant struggle to control the classroom so learning happens...*sigh* I know that one day I will enjoy it, but right now I don't :(

» So....
it's half term and I have done no work. A part of me feels guilty for wasting time doing nothing but then the rest of me goes get real you spend hours working you need a break! Anyway, got some great stuff lined up for the rest of this week.

Will try and slot in some work in finishing up wed to fri lessons next week by Sunday so I can spend Monday and Tuesday planning the week afters lessons to try and get on top of things a bit.

Tis nice to chill out for a few days though :)
» OFSTED
well OFSTED are in school, they were here all day today and will be about tomorrow too. Although I spent all weekend panicking and making sure all my books were marked upto date (not too bad as I was halfway through the sets anyway!) and fine tuning my lessons, I actually had quite an enjoyable day. It was lovely to see that the students could listen and pay attention in lessons and I hope that they will take away that lessons with me can be good if they listen. I even ended the day smiling and happy! We shall see...

It has been interesting to watch the effect on the school though, people seem to be working later and this morning the car park was half full when I got in and normally there are about 6 cars (I got in at my usual time). I guess this is where the life/work balance thing comes in, for OFSTED it's all work and no life for them. Of course for me at the moment it's work and no life most of the time (ah the joys of doing it all the 1st time)!
» The chickens
was out taking pictures of the girls for the bird farm they came from and I really just couldn't resist sharing this one as I think it was fab and I am rather proud of it!

In other news supposed to be lesson planning which is not going so well I have to admit...it's a little boring but as the inevitability of it starts to hit home I think it will become more frantic.

Anf finally, my bloomin greenhouse still hasn't arrived...I ordered 18 days ago and still not a sign! grrrrr :( (the website does say allow upto 28 days but really think it's taking the pi** now!)
» gay Paris
sat outside Notre Dame in the ark usin free Paris wi-fi, in the gorgeous sunshine. It's beautiful! Had wine on boat have chocolate waffles to much on...it's great :

P.S having a fab time as you might tell...Weetobix is taking lots of pics
» Brownie Pack Holiday
Brownie Pack Holiday was at badminton Cottages on the Duke of Beauforts estate (the bloke who has the Badminton Horse trials!). Took the Brownies up from Friday moning till Sunday afternoon and they appeared to have a fab time. There was the odd tear you get with any young children who get upset if they bang a toe or lose their slipper but all went well.

Last night James cooked a yummy tea whilst I went to Aquafit with Laura, had fun although didn't feel particularly hard work for most of it but today the muscles feel a little more toned and controlled (it's the best way to describe it, they don't hurt or ache but I can feel them when I move). Tea was yummy and we watched the Riviera Touch which was amusing.

Today back home with pants weather but off to Paris on Saturday and I am very excited! Was dreaming last night that there were French people and they were talking proper french not gobbildy gook but I could only understand half of it...weird!

Anyway, not a lot on till then except some past papers and lesson planning.

» The great expanse...
well thats it the course finished, one PGCE finishe4d and the QTS standards ticked off. Have to start teaching and be responsible for lots of my own classes from September, exciting, daunting and quite scary all at the same time!

Not a lot going on between then and now (although most weekends are busy) so going to have to keep myself occupied!

Anyway, peace to all and yey I did it and here's the best bit....NO MORE ESSAYS!
» Blue moon
well the chickens are pretty settled. Kimberley loves attention and knows how to rattle her beak against the bars to say she wants to come out of the fixed run and explore the wider garden. (this is only ok when we are in so she was not pleased this morning!)

Feeling a bit blue right now but I am sure it will pass; worried about a lot of things - my sis getting engaged to her bf after 3 weeks of going out, that my essay will be ok, that my presentation will be ok, that money will be ok, keeping on top of the chores, that Weetobix and I don't actually spend much time together anymore (with his WoW and my teaching) and the impact that is having on our relationship - the list goes on.

On the upside only 3 weeks left of the course, although I did find out that it looks like one of my friends on the course has failed his teaching practice :(

Right I had better go, appointments to keep.

» Chickens
Here are the new chooks, the grey is a Bluebelle breed and is about 19 weeks old, we have called her Annabel, the brown is a Ranger breed and is about 21 weeks old, we have called her Kimberley. They are squabbling a lot at the moment as they establish the pecking order, but blatantly Kim is winning.

» confused, is teaching the path to take?
I like the teaching, but the amount of buearacratic red tape is a joke, where do teachjers find the time for a social life, to have friends, partners and enjoyment.

What am I going to do? DO I teach and hope without the essays it will be better or do I find another direction to take it?
» Was it all a stupid mistake?
As I sit and stare out the window, alone, listening to Dire Straits and sipping my cup of Redbush tea, I dwell on how all the things that matter seem to have gone from life. I look around my room and see the text books, folders, solar-powered flower I bought to use with year 7's, and I realise this is all my life has become.

I look out the window and contemplate whether if I fell out and was unable to complete the rest of the PGCE they would give it to me anyway as he majority is done and I realise they would still make me write the essay and it makes me depressed.

I reflect on the days of work, yeah generally work itself was pants but I miss the people, talking to people, going for drinks after work and sharing experiences and the bonding that this lead to.

I dwell on the fact that I have so few friends that I just seem to see the same ones over and over again and have no-one to invite to the wedding. I think about some of my friends who I have not seen for years, who can't be bothered to make an effort to meet up and when we suggest times can't be bothered to remember or something better comes up. Is the life of a teacher this lonely empty place, because it is I don't want it.

I want to go for walks, swimming, ride my bike and generally enjoy life again and right now I feel dead and empty like there is no joy left in the world. Has the course done this to me? How can it have changed the person I am so much in a year?

Did I make a mistake? :(
